The Fish
The lake has been out of use for about 5 years. It is an old gravel pit that was rarely fished in the past.
We started off by making an inventory of the stock. We discovered that some beautiful old fish were swimming around in the lake, including some characterful mirror carps and some beautiful dark common carps. There are also a few monster grass carps that weigh over thirty kg (68-70lbs).
In the spring of 2021, Cyriel decided to release some of his own fish on Black Swan Lake. He released 30 fully scaled mirror carps, common carps and some heavily scaled mirror carps weighing between 8-10kg.
As icing on the cake, ten koi’s were released as well, speaking of real targets!
Finally, in the autumn of 2021, 200 extra fish were added to the lake. A highly varied mix of mirror and common carps weighing between 13-30 kg was released.
These additions were carefully hand-selected from several ponds at various fish farms and provided the lake with a fantastic fish population, including a lot of thirtys, fordys and fifthys (30-40-50-60lbs). Overall, there are about 250 fish weighing between 10 and 30 kilos (20-70 lbs).
There is almost no bream or tench on Black Swan Lake, nor any dwarf catfish. There is a nice pike stock.
The Swims
There are 3 swims situated on the domain.
There are 2 swims on the long side of the lake and 1 swim on the short side of the lake.
Electricity and Wi-Fi is provided at every swim. There is also an unhooking mat, a weigh sling, a fishing net and disinfectant gel available per swim.
Kingfisher Swim
At this swim, you can fish both corners of the lake.
The water is at its deepest on the left corner on the other side.
In addition to the corners, the long sides are very good for fishing too.
This swim is ideal for night fishing.
You can safely set up your tent and park your car.
Tawny Owl Swim
This swim is located on the head of a small peninsula. From this swim you can easily fish the middle of the lake.
There is a more shallow plateau on the left side of the swim. On the other side, the water hits its deepest point at 3.2 meters. Standing on the hardened, sloping embankment, this swim allows you to fish nicely. The carp love to prey under the overhanging trees.
There is room for your tent and car and there is a covered picnic area available as well.
Osprey Swim
This swim is located at the head of the lake, on the beach in front of the chalet. This location has a general view over the well. This swim offers an ideal setting for fishing solo or in duo. There is an overhanging willow in the left corner under which the carp rest. On the right, you can find a newly planted lily field.
There is also a pier available for the paddle boat.
